Using Medicare Advantage OTC Benefits to Improve Member Satisfaction

Each year over 11 million Medicare Advantage plan members are eligible for $5.5 billion in over-the-counter (OTC) Medicare benefits.  Unfortunately, less than 5% of those benefits are ever utilized because the majority of health plan members must either pay for OTC items out-of-pocket or submit for reimbursement.  Healthplus and Medagate have implemented a unique prepaid card platform that allows members to conveniently receive OTC supplemental benefit.  Leveraging existing card behavior (front of store check out and immediate CMS approved restricted spend item adjudication) members have immediate access to necessary OTC products.  The platform also creates wellness and communication opportunities for the health plans.  An independent survey of health plan members shows the overwhelming majority found the card easy to use, and had an important impact on Star Ratings.  Hear from Healthplus on how this program was increased satisfaction of existing members.
